Long ago, the land was in chaos, innocent people were dying, villages falling, and even the land itself seemed shrouded in darkness. Seven ninja were chosen, each willing to die for their village. Together, these ninja forged seven stones of great power. The power of the stones was never told, only witnessed by those around, but by using the stones, these seven ninja stopped the wars, death, and all the hell that broke loose.
It was granted that the stones together could bring the land into darkness as it once had, so it was decided the stones would be seperated, so they would never be reunited, so the land would forever remain in peace. Each village was given a stone. Handed down to only the most trusted ninja who would willingly give their life to ensure the stone would never be stolen. With this, the land was at peace, and eventually, as the land changed, the stones moved.
Stones:
Konohagakure: Ruby
Sunagakure: Quartz
Kirigakure: Sapphire
Kumogakure: Citrine
Iwagakure:Tourmaline
Otogakure: Tnaznaite
Hoshigakure: Emerald

There was an extra ninja in Otogakure, but anyone passing her on the street would not have given her a second glance. The small girl, most likely a Genin getting ready to apply for Chunin, walked casually down the avenue of shops, enjoying the afternoon sun. She had taken off her ninja headband and tied it on her arm to keep her head from getting hot under the shiny metal surface. As the sun began to dip lower in the sky, the girl made her way gradually towards the center of the village, where the academy and the shinobi headquarters were located.
Things are almost never as they seem. Sarutobi Mara, former Konohagakure ninja, was a searcher with a purpose. Her appearance had been altered using a variation of her favorite Shadow Shroud jutsu, making her look like any other young ninja. Her hair, which had been nearly black, was now a light brown that faded into dirty blond. Her eyes, rather than being brown, were a light blue with flecks of hazel. The Oto headband she wore on her upper arm was courtesy of a Jonin she had assassinated the last time she had visited Otogakure. It had been surprisingly easy to get in. She had just walked in the front door, a Genin back from a training session outside the village. If you act like you belong, no one will suspect you don't until something goes wrong.
The Kagai were after the tanzanite, the stone of power that resided in Oto. It was either hidden somewhere well-guarded, or the Otokage had it on her person. For now, Mara was content to search. There was no hurry. Sooner or later, she would find it.

Amaya strolled down the streets of Otogakure. She was glad to be out of her office and headed towards the stables to go hunting. Her ever present companion was perched on her shoulder, she had scared the shit out of a gennin, all was right with the world.
Only it wasn't. Some kind of sixth sense ninjas tend to develop kicked in. Her keen sense of observation caused the lean woman to pause momentarily in her stride. She made it a point to know all shinobi in the village and considering its small size this wasn't all that difficult. So, the sight of an unfamiliar face bearing the sound armband gave her nerves a slight shake. But, if this child was an enemy she wasn't about to give anything away. The woman continued walking.
The harris hawk on her shoulder clicked his hooked beak in warning. The Otokage gave a nearly imperceptible nod of her head. Yes, she knew something was up. No average person would have noticed this exchange. There was however, a change in the womans stride. The relaxed saunter shifted to a liquid, preditorial grace. Somthing was happening. A smile graced the face of the first female Otokage; things had been getting boring around here.

The girl had paused to watch as a vender began to pack his wares and shut down his booth for the day. The sun was sinking inexorably down towards the horizen, causing everything to stand out in sharp contrast to the ever-widening shadows. Shadows she could use. The shy-looking ninja did not even look up as Amaya went by. She did not need to. It was easy enough to identify the Otokage by the way people had turned or called a greeting as she passed.
When Amaya passed Mara, her attitude changed. The Kagai hunter's sharp ears picked out the change in the sound of her walk. It was no longer casual, but soft and tense, like its user was about to spring into action at any moment. The faint click of a bird's beak did not escape notice either. Mara had no idea what it was supposed to mean, but it was enough to know that the Otokage was accompanied by her familiar. A hawk could prove troublesome.
Amaya was certainly the one that Mara was looking for. But it was not yet time to act. There were still many villagers around to get in the way. And Mara had found what she was looking for. Carefully hidden in Amaya's chakra was a single, constant anomaly. The Otokage was carrying something that was giving off a strong chakra signal. It was strong because it had to be covered, and yet could not quite be hidden. So, I have to fight her after all.

Tsuta walked slowly into town, he was still pondering whether or not to give word to the Otokage if his students could go or not. He was Tora must have bursted into her office by now, claiming he should be allowed to go to the Chunin exams. How... predictable. Tora was on the road to be a terrible ninja, especially with the way he acted, showing off his emotions all the time.
A shinobi was supposed to be able to shut off their emotions easily, and also control them. It was obvious that Tora did not posses this skill. The thoughts annoyed him, if Tsuta had a student like that, people might think he was bad teacher. Opening his trench coat, Tsuta grabbed a book, a simple novel that didn't have very much meaning. Though, the world of reading had always compelled Tsuta, you could escape your everyday problems easily through a book, though few people chose to do so.
His silver eyes began to read slowly at first, then began to pick up their pace, taking in more words. He continued to walk, as if he were distracted by his book, but the strange new ninja had caught his eye. Perhaps things were going to get a little more interesting. His eyes also caught sight of Amaya-sama. It looked to Tsuta that she'd seen the new kid, this could be fun. Though, there were too many people around, would this new shinobi try to risk an attack in front of so many people, if that was the shinobi's real intention.
Tsuta decided to keep an eye on the kid, he rounded a corner behind a building, and replaced the book in his trench coat. Adjusting his glasses, Tsuta peered around the corner, watching the girl. In a flash, he disappeared. He would watch her from the shadows. Even if she knew he was there, that would be fine. If she knew she was being watched, it was possible she'd leave, but Tsuta doubted she would spot him, he was an expert at tracking, and keeping to the shadows. Besides, he hadn't given her any reason to think he'd noticed, not to mention the fact that he was only eighteen, she could under estimate him, but that would be her biggest mistake.

Amaya adjusted her gate and turned to the vendor, pushing a strand of black and white hair behind her ear. She murmmered her order to him and waited for a moment as he shuffled around in his cart. Fairly quickly she recieved her bag of roasted chesnuts and cup of warm sake.
With an expert jerk of her neck she shot the salty beverage back, licking her full lips to get remaining drops off. She crumpled the paper cup in her hands and let it drop to the ground. Normally she discouraged littering on principle, but she had more important things to worry over today.
Quickly she felt the alchohal take effect in her empty stomach, one shot had always quickened her senses. She popped a chesnut into her mouth crunching it between her teeth and swallowing. She handed one nut to her companion who held it in one talon while eating it. If Amaya was going to fight she wouldn't do it on an empty stomach.
She slipped her hands into the pockets of her black kimono top. She ran her fingers into the holes of the brass knuckles she kept stowed their just for such a purpose. The woman had by no means let Tsuta slip by her radar, but she ignored him for the time being, she could get him to help if the time came. OOC: Hehe, Amayas gangsta'

Stalking silently in the shadows, Tsuta didn't even seem to be there by those who hadn't sensed his presence eariler, and still, he seemed to be no more than a ghost. Tsuta had preformed Man-Beast jutsu, it wasn't the greatest jutsu; but it did allow him to stalk like an animal on the ground, keeping silent.
The jutsu allowed a person to put an even amount of weight on four body parts; instead of two, allowing greater stealth. His silver eyes watched in the darkness, he was ready to strike a leathal blow as soon as the girl tried anything. His muscles tensed as he knew Amaya-sam would be preparing in case of a battle as well. I only hope this doesn't end in a fight, at least until the villagers are gone, Tsuta thought grimly.
He felt so safe in the shadows, keeping out of the eyes of what could be enemies. Little did he know, he could be in grave danger. Basic ninja skills were to hide one's self well, and shadows were a great place to do that, but if a ninja could attack using the shadows you hide within, how are you to hide? If nightfall came, and the moon was bright, all of Otogakure could be in great danger because of the Kagai.

Ferrus stalked quickly through the streets with an always present stiffness in his strides. Nothing of true importance caught his attention, well... that was until he came upon the scene taking place. Green eyes narrowed at the two, as he could not see Tsuta. Anyone would notice the growing tension, it made every cell in the young chuunin's body tingle as if they were on fire. He stopped a little ways off and waited with anticipation. Muscles tensed ever so slightly and the fingers of the silver-haired boy itched to grab at the hilt of his katana.
On closer examination Ferrus noticed he had never seen the girl. Where was she from? Could she possibly be from another land like his comrade, Thrasymachus, was? Shaking away the petty questions he tensed further.

Thrasymachus walked on the side of the street, a casual stroll back home from training. His back was ramrod-straight as always, and he walked with precise, soldier-like steps. He noticed the Lady Otokage up ahead, and he gave a quick solute, acknowledging the superior's presence. The chuunin also noticed Ferrus up ahead, but he only gave a glance in acknowledgment of his contemporary. But something wasn't quite right. Icy and still.... something's up here. A stranger? he thought. This thought brought him back to when he first arrived in the Sound. He was quite the foreigner, and his name and accent really didn't help hide the fact. He felt as though he stuck out like a sore thumb. Thrasymachus furrowed his brow, looked around more, and walked on, still wondering about the ominous atmosphere of the street.

(Aww man, you're all ganging up on little ol' me)
The sun had touched the edge of the horizon now, and its warm, dying glow cast a long shadow behind the small girl. She had acquired a piece of fruit and was munching on it as she continued walking towards the center of Oto, away from the residential areas. The fake Oto Gennin seemed blissfully unaware that she was being stalked. She acted like any other kid who wanted to push their curfew to the limit.
They all noticed me because they don't know me. She thought, taking another bite of the sweet, peach-like fruit. She could have killed an actual Oto Gennin and taken their appearence, but it would have been too much trouble. She would have had to have at least a rudimentary knowledge of whoever it was, and be able to maintain the charade in the event that someone had come up to talk to her. It was far easier this way. She had never wanted a long-term character, and as it so happened, her appearance had brought her prey right to her.
Of course, her prey had also brought company. The Kage was discreetly tailing her, while another, probably a Jonin, crept along in the shadows. An excellent position. She thought in an unusual fit of cruel irony. The hunter's ears were honed by years of hunting blind as her eyes adjusted to her nighttime routines. She could hear the clipped, soft step of the Kage, and the rustle of the hawk's wings. She could hear the softer tread, but heavier breathing of the Jonin in the shadows. She had marked the position where Ferrus' footfalls had suddenly stopped. He seemed to still be standing there, tense as a ramrod, if his hiss of breath was any indication. Another ninja was still walking in the background of the almost-deserted street, but he did not yet seem to be actively involved in following her.

((That's what I thought, but you are in a village that protects it's own. Besides, you know I'd probably led you beat the shit outta Tsuta anyway. My characters always get hurt, that's why he's conveniently placed in the shadows.))
He tailed her silently, no one who know he was there, he was even hoping the strange shinobi didn't know he was there. Tsuta was aware of all the other ninja, but he was also noticing the way the shinobi moved through the streets, away from the villagers. Was she trying to get away to keep the villagers safe, or to thin or numbers? That didn't matter, what did matter was that he stopped her from doing any real damage to the village or its people.
He perched himself in a well hidden area of the shadows, ahead of the girl. His hands ready to grab the daggers from his boots, and cause some damage. Perhaps he could see what she was trying to do. He was the hunter, a mighty tracker of Otogakure.
The question was: Was the hunter, about to become the hunted?

(I know, I just had to say that. I'm going, I'm going.)
Mara sighed inwardly. Why did all of these idiots have to get in her way? There were some shinobi in the Kagai who loved to kill. Mara was not one of them. If she had to kill someone, then she did not hesitate, but she preferred to simply leave her opponents unconscious. This wasn't out of any mercy or compassion on her part. Rather, it was because she had learned two lessons. One: Humiliation hurt them more, and Two: Actions, especially deaths, had long-term effects that she had no way of predicting.
But the street was clear now, and they obviously all knew she was not who she was pretending to be. So it was time to drop the pretense...but not quite at that moment. Since her weapon of choice was a knife, she had long since figured out how to do hand signs when she was holding something in one hand. The fruit moved in a blur as she made the necessary signs. The shadows that the Jonin had been hiding in turned against him. The now-solid shape of a hand reached up to stifle any screams even as it pinned him to the ground. Kage Kangoku : Shadow Prison.
With one threat now occupied, the uneaten core of the fruit dropped to the ground and rolled to the side. Mara turned around, and her Shadow Illusion dissolved in a shimmering silver-blue mist. The mist masked her movement as she drew one of her throwing knives from the straps that formed an X across her back and front. Now she was facing her other stalkers, the Kage, the still one, and the other, who had no quite gotten out of sight in time to avoid the confrontation. Although she looked completely different now, the Oto hayate was still there, tied around her upper arm. She was not large by any standard, but the Kagai could not be called small. The shy mask of the Genin had disappeared, leaving behind dark, fathomless eyes that fixed squarely on the Otokage.

A laugh came from higher up, Tsuta stood there, watching Mara. "Did you honestly think it'd be that easy?" He asked her, daggers already in hand. He grinned beneath his mask, "I am an elite Jonin, you think I'd be stupid enough to just sit and wait?" Suddenly, the captured Tsuta disappeared in a puff of smoke. Shaow Clone come in quite handy, hard to believe it's such a basic move, Tsuta thought.
So, she fights with shadows, eh? I better be careful, considering night is coming, and fast. I'll have to kill her, or drive her out. Though, neither of those ideas actually sounds easy, it seems everything is harder when you're a Jonin. Suddenly his thoughts moved to Ferrus, and the other Chunin, what if they followed? Tsuta already doubted he had much of a chance against this shinobi himself, let alone them.
He studied her face carefully, slowly her knew who she was. "So, do you know who it was you killed when you were here last time?" He spoke calmly to Mara, knowing the member of the Kagai was here for something. He could only hope to stall her long enough for help, or risk his life trying to get he rout of the village, anyway possible.
For now, he would hold up a defensive position, if that didn't work, he'd try some fire jutsu. He raised his arms, holding the daggers defensivly, "If you cause a threat to my village, you're going to have a tough time. Fight me, and see if you're even ready to fight another ninja from thsi village." It was a bluff, but Tsuta needed to find out as much as possible about her. The fate of the village could rest in his next move.
His silver eyes squinted slightly, I will not simply let her waltz in, and threaten my home without a fight!
((Don't worry, I don't plan to keep him fighting too long. I'm just trying to understand his character a bit more, as I haven't completely figured it out myself. So, bring it on, my wager is there wont be too many posts about their fight.))

Amaya hissed lightly as the mist enveloped her opponent. She murmmered between her teeth. Be my eyes Kanki! And with that she delved into the orbs of her companion. Her vision was magnified 1000 fold, She could see every droplet of mist in the air, see an unfortunate ant crawling across the ground. Best of all her enemy was in plane view.
Stay back for now Tsuta, keep civilians out, but let shinobi in, I want them to see who killed their comrade! Fury flashed through the kages indelible dark eyes. She placed one elegant had on her whip, flicking her wrist so the dark leather slithered out of its place in her obi. The bag of chesnuts the kage had been so occupied with before rolled on the ground. Instead, two pairs of brass knuckles glistened menacingly on her clenched fists.

Tsuta knelt down, even in the midst of battle he would show respect. "Otokage-sama, it appears all the villagers are already gone. Any that are left, would probably be leaving home now. Shinobi are the only people left, as far as I can see." He stood up, his silver eyes still watching, "At the moment, you have only Ferrus, Thrasymachus, youself, and I as a fighting force."
Tsuta's hand instantly returned to their defenisve position, but the looked ready too attack now too. "I will not leave this fight, Otokage-sama." He stated looking down upon Mara, then added, "But, I will not enter the fight with reason. Whether it's your life in danger, or your command." Tsuta was not one to abandon someone in need, especially since it was the Otokage. He smiled under his mask, though it was hidden to the other Shinobi, "I don't know how far back the other two are, but that doesn't matter now. I'm not one to leave a comrade in danger, especially against an unknown danger."
His words were true, neither of them really knew what Mara' abilities were. Tsuta couldn't risk leaving his ally behind, the danger was great. Besides, he'd heard rumors the Kagai were after something the Kages' possesed. Tsuta was not a man to listen to rumors, btu the idea peaked his intrest. Perhaps he was going to find out...
